Spatial filtering
Spatial filtering is an image processing tool used to enhance the appearance of an image. In Nuclear Medicine for example, images have a grainy appearance because of the statistical nature of the acquisition. A type of spatial filtering called smoothing can be used to reduce this effect, although it does adversely affect the spatial resolution of the image.
